Washington, DC—The White House News Photographers Association and the Carroll Square Gallery announce a free and open to the public presentation on Wednesday, November 6, 2013, beginning at 6:30 p.m., with James Lorin Silverberg, Director of Litigation for The Intellectual Property Group, and multiple award winning photographer and WHNPA member Brooks Kraft.
James Lorin Silverberg offers strategies for protecting photographic property, and Brooks Kraft, reflects on the related challenges photographers face in the digital age.
James Lorin Silverberg, Esq., is the Director of Litigation for The Intellectual Property Group, PC, a law firm which represents clients in the Arts, Entertainment, Internet, New Media, and related industries, and which is based in New York City and Washington. He has appeared as lead counsel in more than 50 Copyright cases throughout the United States. Silverberg is legal counsel to the White House News Photographers Association. He has represented a number of important photographic properties ranging from MPI Media Group’s British Pathe News Reel Collection to the Zapruder Film of the Kennedy Assassination, as well as dozens of hot news photographic works, (the Kelly Video Bay Bridge footage of San Francisco Earthquake, The Agan Video of the White House shooting, the Cohen video footage of the Fight 587 plane crash, to name a few). Silverberg has had licensing dealings with most of the leading media outlets in the world, and has represented hundreds of commercial and editorial photographers in his over thirty years of practice. He has formerly served as a Legal Specialist for the United States Department of Justice, and as a Law Clerk for the Office of the United States Attorney, in Washington, DC. He is formerly a Professor of Law at the Washington College of Law, and is a graduate of the National Law Center, George Washington University, where he earned his J.D. in 1980.
Brooks Kraft, recently named International Photographer of the Year at the 11th annual Lucie Awards, is one of the world’s most accomplished photojournalists. His work has appeared across the globe in thousands of publications, and his iconic images have appeared on over 25 covers of TIME Magazine. Kraft is a veteran of seven presidential campaigns, and won the 2013 White House News Photographers Political Photograph of the Year for his campaign coverage of President Obama.
This event is concurrent with The White House News Photographers Association: National Eyes of History™, on view through November 22 at the Carroll Square Gallery.
