The White House News Photographers Association would like to thank Steve Thomma, the new president of the White House Correspondents Association, and the new WHCA board for voting unanimously to take down official White House photos from their website and replace them with news photos of the president solicited from their members.

Thomma said in an e-mail to the White House Correspondents Association membership: “This symbolic gesture is a statement of our belief that journalists should be allowed to cover the president as often as possible and that journalists should not be excluded when the White House is covering the president with its own photographers or video crews.”
