Reuters staff photographer Larry Downing will be the 2015 recipient of the White House News Photographers Association’s lifetime achievement award. Downing received the news just prior to a Marine One departure in a surprise announcement made by his colleagues in the White House briefing room. Downing is a longtime photojournalist who has been covering the White House since the Carter Administration. During his career he has held newspaper, magazine and wire service staff positions. He has also worked as a freelance photographer. Downing is currently a senior staff photographer for Reuters. For more information please see the WHNPA press release.
