Washington Post’s Michel du Cille passes away on assignment in Liberia

Washington Post photojournalist and long time WHNPA member Michel du Cille passed away yesterday while on assignment in Liberia at age 58. He joined the Washington Post in 1988. While on staff with the Miami Herald, du Cille won two Pulitzer Prizes for his work covering the 1985 eruption of Nevado del Ruiz volcano in Colombia and crack cocaine use in Miami. He won his third Pulitzer with the Washington Post for his work documenting substandard treatment of veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Du Cille recently returned to Africa after spending significant time their documenting the fight against Ebola. Photographs from du Cille’s career can be seen at the Washington Post.

Michel was survived by his wife Washington Post Photographer Nikki Kahn and his two children from a previous marriage.
