Matt McClain

Matt McClain is a staff photographer with The Washington Post. He previously was a photojournalist at the Rocky Mountain News and the Ventura County Star. His work has received recognition from Pictures of the Year International, World Press Photo, Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Awards, Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, and NPPA Best of Photojournalism. Born and raised in rural Indiana, McClain is a graduate of Indiana University.

Allison Shelley

Allison Shelley is an independent documentary photographer and multimedia journalist. Former staff photographer for the Washington Times and previously director of photography for Education Week newspaper, her current work focuses on identity and belonging during crisis.

Allison’s photography and video has been featured in Time, The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, NPR, Al Jazeera America, The Wall Street Journal, Los Angeles Times, Paris Match, and The Guardian, among others. She has received awards and/or financial support from organizations such as the Pulitzer Center on Crisis Reporting, the National Press Photographers Association, and the White House News Photographers Association.

Brendan Smialowski

Brendan Smialowski is a photojournalist based in Washington, DC. He has covered a wide gamut of news including politics, sports, conflict, disasters and human interest. Smialowski — now a member of the Agence France-Presse staff — spent a significant portion of his career as a freelance photojournalist where he worked closely with wire services like AFP, newspapers and magazines. His style of photojournalism is heavily influenced by his experiences working with broad types of publications.
