The White House News Photographers Association is appalled by a fake video depicting a superimposed President Trump committing violence against journalists, which was reportedly shown at a conference of Trump supporters at one of his Florida hotels last week. While we recognize the rights of free speech afforded to the makers of this video, the WHNPA vehemently condemns this and all other depictions of violence against journalists. We ask that the President and all others do the same, recognizing that media and rhetoric encouraging violence and hate against the press could very likely incite actual violence. When journalists are threatened for doing their jobs, democracy is threatened. It is essential we protect journalists.
